31.October 2023 ǀ Tractebel and Aurecon form a strategic alliance to revolutionize dam projects in Queensland, Australia, combining their global expertise and local knowledge to meet the rising demand for dam upgrades.

Tractebel, a global engineering powerhouse in the field of dams and hydropower, has joined forces with Aurecon, a renowned international design, engineering, and advisory firm. They have established a strategic Teaming Agreement to deliver integrated dam engineering and strategic advisory expertise to the Queensland dam market.

Uniting strengths: Aurecon and Tractebel’s comprehensive approach to dam projects

This collaboration unites the strengths of both Aurecon and Tractebel to offer a comprehensive range of advisory and engineering services for the planning and execution of significant dam projects. The partnership merges Aurecon’s profound regional knowledge with Tractebel’s expertise, recognized as the world’s leading hydro plant design firm by Engineering News-Record (ENR). It covers all stages of the dam project lifecycle, from dam safety evaluations, detailed design, construction assurance, operations readiness, and environmental assessment to strategic advisory services.

Marius Jonker, Technical Director for Dams at Aurecon, stated that the partnership is a reaction to the increasing demand for dam upgrades in Queensland, Australia.

He said:“Queensland has become a global epicentre of dam infrastructure projects underpinned by the systemic drivers of climate change, ageing assets, and the imperative to protect our communities. By combining Aurecon’s leading engineering and advisory capability with Tractebel’s global dam engineering expertise, we are empowering our Queensland clients to confidently deliver the pipeline of dam projects for the benefit of communities across the state. We are very excited to bring contemporary and transformative capability and capacity to the Queensland dam market, enabling us to work with clients to tackle their most complex problems.”

Enhancing sustainability and focusing expertise: The vision of Aurecon and Tractebel’s partnership

Evelyn Storey, Managing Director for Queensland at Aurecon, expressed that the partnership will bolster Aurecon’s market position and aid in realizing the organization’s vision of implementing safe and sustainable solutions.

She remarked:“The partnership brings unrivalled global expertise to support our clients to protect our communities, grow our economy, protect our environment, and ultimately enhance the liveability of our state. This partnership is founded on the shared values and vision of the two organisations, and a shared belief that we can deliver far greater value to our clients together than we can separately.”

Matthieu Béraud, Tractebel’s Head of Water, highlighted that collaborating with Aurecon allows Tractebel to concentrate their worldwide expertise on the Queensland dams market.

He noted:“Tractebel has a proud heritage of delivering large and complex dam projects across the globe and entered the Australian market recently through the pumped hydro storage projects Snowy 2.0 and Big T. Our aim is to support our clients in their transition to cleaner energy ensuring safe, reliable, and long-lasting dams and hydraulic infrastructure. Combining our experience with Aurecon’s eminent Australian based dams capability and its broad infrastructure engineering and advisory expertise, this partnership enables us to focus our business on the needs of Queensland dams clients.”

Tracking blue and fin whale migrations in the Arctic
Tracking blue and fin whale migrations in the Arctic

A decade of acoustic data from the eastern Fram Strait reveals unique seasonal behaviors of blue and fin whales. While blue whales are primarily heard in summer and autumn, sporadic winter vocalizations challenge assumptions about their migration. Fin whales, on the other hand, display remarkable flexibility, vocalizing year-round. As climate change reshapes the Arctic, this research highlights the need for targeted conservation to protect these majestic marine mammals from rising human impacts.

Neue Studie: Flachwasserbereiche treiben Eutrophierung in Klarwasserseen voran
