Four-day seminar on „Pump Maintenance and Operation“

Sulzer’s training program "Pump Maintenance and Operation" has been created to provide in-depth knowledge on centrifugal pumps including design characteristics and fault diagnosis. After attending the seminar, which will take place at the Sulzer Academy for pumps and systems on November 17 to 20, 2020 in Bruchsal and Mannheim (DE), participants will be able to optimize the availability, efficiency and reliability of their pumps.

The theoretical learning units will be supplemented by practical exercises on pump models and mechanical seals.

The training program is aimed at specialists with experience in the operation as well as repair of centrifugal pumps, and it is being conducted in theoretical and practical sessions. It offers an improved understanding of the principles as well as functioning of centrifugal pumps, mechanical seals and other pump components.
The theoretical sessions will provide knowledge of centrifugal pumps, their operation and maintenance, typical causes of faults and how to avoid them, as well as specialist knowledge on selection and installation of mechanical seals. The possibilities for modifying the design of an existing pump that have been proven in practice will also be discussed. During a plant visit, participants will also be given an in-depth insight into the modern production of a pump package and how a centrifugal pump is tested prior to delivery.
The practical exercises on pumps and mechanical seals will give attendees the opportunity to supplement their theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience of pump strip-down and assembly.

The role of nanoplastic in marine pollution is greater than assumed

Nanoplastic particles are less than one micrometre in size, but by mass, their share in marine pollution is comparable to that of microplastic. This is the result of a study conducted by scientists from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ).
