Since 2016, 1,432 jurisdictions in 28 countries have declared a climate emergency. Populations covered by jurisdictions that have declared a climate emergency amount to over 820 million citizens, with 57 million of these living in the United Kingdom.
The Waterwise Conference has been the major national water efficiency event in the UK since 2007. Environment Agency Chief Executive Sir James Bevan opened the 2019 conference with his now infamous ‘Jaws of Death’ speech: “How do we avoid the jaws of death – the point at which, unless we take action to change things, we will not have enough water to supply our needs?(…)We are particularly interested in specific ideas on how we could get this country to Waterwise’s ambitious target of 100 litres per person per day.”
At this year’s event the participants are expected to discuss how the climate emergency interacts with water efficiency and what to do about it. In detail, the presentations will approach the conference topic with respect to challenges, science, mitigation, environment, adaption, homes and businesses, where the water industry needs to be and what it is actually doing about it.
