In recent years several studies from DWA, AWWA, US-EPA and other international organizations have shown that utilities have to cope with increasing investment needs of their ageing infrastructure to guarantee good and reliable services for their customers also in the future. In this respect efficient and effective asset management planning becomes more and more important for utility managers. Limited budgets need to be spent wise, rate adjustments have to be justified in front of regulating authorities. This is a real challenge for many utilities worldwide and they are looking for appropriate models and tools that support the work of the planning engineers. Baur&Kropp are specialized in asset management services and tools for urban infrastructures (water, sewer, energy) with projects all over Europe and North America. Their expertise covers the whole range of AM planning tasks such as condition assessment, long-term strategic planning and prioritization of assets for rehabilitation. Based on their experience and continuous collaboration with other experts in this field a suite of software tools – an AM toolbox with KANEW as the core component – has been developed that can be also implemented at a client’s site.
