KLASS-Filter GmbH coordinates the project that is supported by the Federal Ministery of Education and Research. Five partners work together in the project – besides Fraunhofer ILT and KLASS, Laserjob GmbH, LUNOVU GmbH and OptiY GmbH are involved.
The new filter is based on the patented cyclone filter by KLASS. This filter element will be equipped with a metal foil containing a large number of precisely drilled pores with diameters less than 10 µm. The drilling will be done by lasers with ultrashort pulses, which are often referred to as ultrafast lasers. These lasers are able to ablate almost any material without causing a thermal load of the adjacent material. Their cuts are smooth and melt-free, even on a micron scale.
The drilling process will be carried out on the laser system at LaserJob GmbH. Fraunhofer ILT developed a special simulation software that will be combined with the software by OptiY GmbH. The simulation allows for testing all process parameters close to reality before starting the drilling process. Furthermore, the process light during the drilling process will be monitored for quality control.
